Compound materials

Vittoria’s eagerness to innovate and disrupt the cycling industry is endless and this is why the company remains at the forefront of innovation like no other within the bike tire industry. The company’s proprietary laboratory is where Vittoria scientists harness the proprieties of new-found materials through advanced technologies and tools. They then integrate these developed materials into products, raising performance to previously unattainable levels

Graphene + Silica

Joining its already proven Graphene research-applied knowledge with Silica, a material which specifically improves road tyre performance in the center of the tread, Vittoria has reached an even better result in compound technology. As part of Vittoria’s ultimate product development, the new Corsa N.EXT has been designed with this specific compound technology. Silica, added to Graphene, boosts the tyre performance and consistently provides longer mileage and grip, further empowering the riding experience. Furthermore, this new compound combination reduces tyre weight and increases the performance gains. Vittoria’s lab tests have proven the new combination of Graphene and Silica to provide following performance gains, compared to a normal compound:

  • +9% in speed/rolling performance
  • +32% in grip
  • +21% in puncture resistance
  • Longer mileage and tyre’s wear life

Graphene

From the Olympic games to the Grand Tours, Vittoria Graphene compounds are the choice of the Pros. No other performance compound formulation matches the combination of speed, control, and durability that Vittoria Graphene compounds deliver. The Graphene compound used in the center tread is formulated to minimize rolling resistance and punctures, while extending useful wear life. This compound resists heat build up, while still delivering Grand-Tour winning performance.

The shoulder area uses two separate Graphene compounds; one at the base, and one at the surface. The base compound provides a stable foundation for cornering loads, while providing protection from slices in the tread. The surface compound is formulated to provide ultimate cornering confidence, in both wet and dry conditions. On models with 4C, a 4th Graphene compound is used on the area at the edge of the tread, for increased durability and abrasion resistance.

4C Graphene

XC and Down-Country tyres need to deliver speed, control and durability. Vittoria 4C Graphene compounds are UCI XC World Championship proven, and are specifically formulated to give ultimate grip with the lowest possible rolling resistance, while still providing a long useful wear life.

The center tread area uses two separate Graphene compounds; one at the base, and one at the surface. The base compound provides a stable foundation for climbing and braking loads, while providing protection from pinch flats and punctures. The surface compound is formulated to provide minimal rolling resistance, while delivering ultimate traction in both wet and dry conditions.

The shoulder area of the tread also uses two separate Graphene compounds; one at the base, and one at the surface. The base compound provides a stable foundation for cornering loads, while providing protection from slices in the tread. The surface compound is formulated to provide ultimate cornering confidence, in both wet and dry conditions.

All four Graphene 4C compounds work together to minimize tearing and extend useful wear life, in a range of terrain.

1C Race compound

The 1C RACE compound is the newest tread component specifically developed to satisfy the needs of performance-oriented gravity riders seeking ultimate grip on any trail and condition.

Featuring an innovative combination of Graphene and Silica-filled molecules in a single soft compound, the new formulation provides ultimate flexibility and deformation to the tread. As a result, grip and damping absorption can be maximized at every lean angle, enhancing traction and control even on most tough sections. ‘Speed by more grip’ will lead your riding performance with no compromises.

Depending on riding style, conditions and terrain, the new Enduro tyres featuring the 1C RACE compound can be fitted with different set-ups and alternatively combined also with other Vittoria Enduro tyres featuring the 4C compound for the best performance. The possible use can be:

  • FRONT & REAR: 1C RACE for the most wet, technical or rocky conditions where grip and damping have to be maximized.
  • FRONT: 1C RACE for maximization of grip at every lean angle, suppleness and energy absorption, especially to keep control at landings on technical sections.
  • REAR: 4C Graphene for pedalling efficiency, toughness and durability.
  • FRONT & REAR: 4C Graphene for hardpack fast terrains, ultimate robustness and strength.

Casing Materials

Cotton

Cotton threads have the thinnest structure in the tyre casing technology, with benefits related to lightweight and flexibility. This characteristic allows the development of casings with a higher number of threads per inch, up to 320 TPI, for the top-quality cotton casings. This property allows the tyre to conform closer to the road’s surface, providing a smoother ride, easier rolling, and better grip. In order to boost the overall strength of the casing, Vittoria uses Corespun yarn, which is a particular type of yarn made by cotton and aramid fibres combined. Vittoria’s Cotton casing is used for Pro Competition products, proven by multiple victories in Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, Vuelta a España, Classics, World Championships, European Championships and Olympic Games.

The top-of-the-range road tyres from Vittoria use the cotton casing: Corsa, Corsa Control and Corsa Speed.

Cotton tyres are a better choice if you are looking for:

  • Race performance
  • Speed
  • Lightweight

Nylon

Nylon is a robust and durable artificial fiber traditionally used for strong tyre casings. Nylon threads are thicker than cotton ones, so casings have a lower number of threads per inch. The advantages of nylon casings is that they are strong and durable, extending the wear life of the casing. However, because it is an artificial fiber, it is not as supple as cotton.

Nylon tyres, such as Corsa N.EXT,  Rubino Pro and Zaffiro Pro, are a better choice if you are looking for a robust and durable tyre, that provides higher puncture protection.

Nylon tyres are a better choice if you are looking for:

  • Durablility
  • Puncture Protection
